BOOK WEEK 2017

Wow what a week this was. There was so many activities on offer for us to get immersed into a book. The first thing was the Teacher Read Around. This was when other teachers came into our class to read us new stories while our teachers went into other classes to read to them. It was great to meet new teachers in the school and see the different books they had.

We also had buddy reading. This was where we met up with another classroom from the school and read with them. This was a chance for us to meet some older kids from school and listen to them read us a story. Here are a few photos from with the buddy classes.

Then came Thursday. Book character dress up day and grandparents day. We went to the PAC for a parade to show off our amazing costumes. Even our teachers dressed up.

Then after morning tea we had our Grandparents come in and visit us. We did lots of exciting things with them and we had lots of books read to us. We also had Miss Johnson's Nana come into read with some of us that had Grandparents that lived far away. What a treat!

WOW! What a fantastic week this was. Thank you for everyone that came and visited us. We cannot wait for Book Week next year!

Inquiry Time in the Wee Sprouts!

In term 3 the Wee Sprouts have been looking at Nursery Rhymes and what problems we can find in them. We have then been using the design process to plan and create a way that we can help the characters.

Firstly, we read Little Miss Muffet. We did not know what curds and whey were so in groups we made some and had a taste. Wee Sprouts were very split some of us liked it and some of us really didn’t. In small teams, we then built a new tuffet for Miss Muffet. All of us were able to create a design that held up Miss Muffet.

Most recently we met Humpty Dumpty. He had a big problem!! Every time he fell off his wall he broke and had to go to hospital to get put back together again. As you all know, all the king’s horses and all the king’s men weren’t very good at putting him back together again.

When Humpty Dumpty visited us, he asked if we would be able to design a way to save him if he fell off the wall again. We were all very excited to meet him and get a chance to help him. We brainstormed ways we could help him from breaking and then drew our individual plan.  We tested our designs by dropping a small Humpty Dumpty off the wall.

As you can see some eggs survived and others didn’t. We reflected on why some worked better than others. We shared these with Humpty Dumpty and he decided that he needed to put a net under his wall to catch him next time he falls.

This inquiry into Nursery Rhymes has been a big excitement for us all and we are looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Week 3 in Room 1

Each day, Monday to Thursday we have a letter of the day we learn about at school.

The letters this week are:

Monday: Ii
Tuesday: Pp
Wednesday: Nn
Thursday: Cc & Kk (as they have the same sound).

The children in Room 1 challenge this week is to come up with a word that starts with each of our letters for letters of the day this week and add them to our blog.

Welcome to Room 1

How have you been a bucket filler over the holidays?
